I'm having a hard time finding a decent photography studio in town for taking some stills of my kid. Every place wants to hold the digital originals for hostage & wants me to get prints only through them, which is NOT gonna work for me.

Anyone know of a place that will hand over the original high res photos without any watermarks, retouching, etc?? I can do all that stuff myself & don't want someone's name plastered all over the stills.

All I want is to do the session, pay for it & get the originals with no prints factored into the price. Thanks.

FYI. Originals = Exactly what comes outta the camera. Not those little web-sized pics that places like BabiesRUs gives you that come on a CD or you have to fetch online somewhere.

Good luck. Thats how photographers/studios make a living. A friend of mine does digital stuff. Mostly sports and boating events/ races. I know he sells prints mostly and if you want the original file your to use as you see fit, like you want to do... it's in the $500 range.

Thats not true. I know plenty of photographers in other cities that offer a price that is just the session + digital originals. Heck, our wedding photographer (who was a professional BTW) did just that for $200. Its "on the side" work. Meaning its for small projects that take little time to do. Our wedding was small (like 10 people) & took less than 30 minutes total.

Trust me, there are PLENTY of legit photographers who do this, regardless of how your friend does his business. People sell digital negatives all the time these days.

I would give Fototechnika a call. They're well established in Jacksonville.

Though my wedding/elopement was elsewhere, I used Fototechnika to do my prints and enlargements and they were great to deal with, they did exactly as I requested.

I'm sure they can recommend a photographer to you. You might ultimately decide to get some prints from them, and if not, they're feeding work to one of their photography associates, so it all comes back to them .

there's a photographer in jacksonville that will offer you a compact disc of all of the photos from your session...high res/retouched...for printing. prices are very very reasonable...great photographer to work with, especially for kids.

you can go to her website here: Incandescent Photography | the bigger picture.

Just a suggestion - but you may want to consider hiring an FCCJ or UNF student majoring in Digital Art. I know those kids need final projects/portfolios, etc., and would most likely appreciate the opportunity plus a little extra cash. Good luck.

I was going to suggest the same thing.

Asking that from a professional photographer is like asking a doctor just to give you his prescription pad...

Uh, no its not. Tell that to the 2 PROFESSIONAL photographers I've hired in the past who did this same thing for me. Also, tell that to the tons who sell their digital copies online via pro sites like Smugmug.

Just an FYI, digital photography is changing the game. That old "get prints only through us at an insane markup" business model is old & its tired. Sure a lot still do it, but not to even offer the original res digital copies in this day & age isn't exactly a smart thing to do for the photographer nor on the customer's part either.

Anyways, printed media will die eventually. And I sure dont want my only copy of my kid's photos to be hard copy prints that wear out, fade, can burn in a fire, etc. Thats just dumb. Its not like we're living in the 70s here. So, can we drop this now. Quite frankly I'm getting tired of defending it.
