Hi,
I'm new to Indianapolis area and I'm moving from South Carolina to Indianapolis by mid of Mar-2011. I'm having a family and my son, 3 yr, is going to preschool.

I would like to have a good Indian community rented apartment near to Plainfield & Greenwood. Can I have some good suggestion about the apartment and the price range (I'm looking for 2bedroom apartments).

Regards,
Sudhakar.

You might want to contact the India Association of Indianappolis, India Association of Indianapolis

They should be able to give you specific information.

Welcome to Indy. Other than the weather, I think you will be pleasantly surprised and enjoy our large Indian community.

My friend got back to me and recommended you contact the Sikhs she often works with in Greenwood. Regardless of whether or not you are Sikh, they should be able to provide very specific information on the Indian community on the south side. Click here for their website. I hope this is helpful!

Welcome to Indianapolis. The Indian community in Indianapolis is robust and growing. Greenwood in particular has a large Sikh population, as Jillaceae already mentioned. From what I hear, Carmel's community on the north side is relatively large as well. Not sure about Plainfield, but it's a western suburb, and the near west side of Indianapolis, particularly in the Eagledale neighborhood and around Lafayette Square Mall, seems to offer the highest concentration of Indian restaurants and stores. One other location that has a reasonably large population is Franklin Township, which is the southeastern portion of Indianapolis. I know they have Punjabi speakers in the Franklin Twp public school system, which is one of the best school districts in the city limits. Hope that helps.

There are several Punjabi school children in the Clark-Pleasant school system in Whiteland. You can also check this out:

As others have pointed out, the Sihk community has made a noticable impact in Greenwood and the south side overall, and a very positive impact I might add. But that's not to say there aren't Indian communities elsewhere in the city.
