Amid the flooding and general mess comes the announcement that OSF was accepted as a Mayo Clinic Network partner. What this means to downstate is patients will no longer need to drive to Minnesota for treatment at Mayo Clinic. They will receive the same level of care locally. Network physicians will have access to Mayo Clinic physicians and be able to conferences and share records. The expanded network has the potential to reach more patients and treat critical patients faster with less delay.

It makes no difference where one lives in Illinois. If the physician or hospital is in the OSF network the patent will receive the same level of care. There is no charge to patient or OSF network physician to access the Mayo Clinic Network or any of its resources.

Seems like good news, but I'm not sure what "OSF" is. Can you elaborate?

OSF is the network name. OSF (aka St. Francis) is the hospital. All of the Champaign pediatricians I researched for a friend have staff privileges at St. Francis. St. Anthony is Rockford, St. Joseph at Bloomington, are in the OSF network, as are some of the physicians in Macomb.

I do not believe that all catholic hospitals belong to the Order of St. Francis (OSF) network. St. Francis Hospital building is over 100 yrs old. It was originally a teaching hospital managed by Mother Superior and a cadre of nuns. The student nurses lived on premises at one time.
