We have been going to the Hogan Family Y, but I am not pleased with their program. We have attended sessions since September but they do not have enough kids or kids attending the sessions consistently to divide them by ability. Thus, each session has been exactly the same as the previous session--they are not building upon or learning new skills. My child will be 5 next month. Any suggestiins for a good, consistent swim program in the Huntsville/Madison area? Thank you.

UAH fitness center. We did that for years then tried the Y and saw the exact same thing you did. UAH is great for the kids.

The Y is a very over priced place. I was paying a 74 dollar family membership and was only touching the surface with just going to the gym. The price needs to be structured based on your use of the facilities.

There's also the Aquatics Center off Monroe. I'm not sure if it's as good as the UAH Fitness center (that was a bit too much of a schlep for me to want to commit to), but it was substantially better than the Y.

We really tried to utilize the Y in Madison but gave up. I know it's a family place but they took away the adult lounge (one of the big selling points for us) to expand their child care. I'm a mom and I totally understand needing child care but the kids were taking over and it seemed there was little effort by the Y to respect the adults. I was going early for water aerobics, taking an hour or two to get some computer work done in the adult lounge, then spending some time in the gym. When they moved the tables to the open area it was way too noisy to work or relax a bit. When we (and several other folks, we found out later) tried talking to management about this and some other minor issues that affected our gym experience, everyone passed the buck. We hated to leave because we had finally gotten ourselves active again but it was just too aggravating to keep going.
