Is it me, or has this August not been as hot as usual? I mean its hot outside, but usually this time of the year the heat is unbearable. I don't even think we have hit 100 this month.

Last summer was an exception; not the rule.

I'm not talking about last summer, I'm talking about all the summers I've lived here for the past 32 years of my life. It just doesn't seem as hot as it usually is around this time of the year. I remember when I used to play football in middle school and high school and it used to be like 100 degrees everyday.

I was thinking the same thing. However, having a lot of family in Michigan, I think my perception might be skewed by the few stretches this summer where they had record breaking heat waves that surpassed our daily highs.

Considering that the National Weather Service data shows the all-time average number of days per year over 100 degrees in downtown Houston to be 4 (6 per year in Conroe and 1 per year at Hobby), I'll go out on a limb and say that it only seemed like it was 100 degrees every day. The record number of days per year over 100 in downtown Houston prior to last year was 32 in 1980. I don't know why people say that Houston is over 100 a lot as the data doesn't back that up.

That said, based on my many fewer years of Houston summers, this August has been slightly cooler than normal. We deserve it after last summer.

We were just talking about it last night. Dunny why, but even with all the rain, it's been drier heat this summer.

It's my fault,
my first summer in San Antonio, they had a record 59 days over 100 degrees
my first summer in Houston (last year) was similar.

I wanted to go to a hot place, compared to Missouri, but God might have gone a little overboard trying to make me happy.
