There are way more than 100k Haitians in Brooklyn/NY. Look up the recent Census reports and take into account those that were not interested in being counted.

I think he just said Brooklyn only. He did say there are more in the other boroughs.

I'm kind of surprised that Houston isn't a top Caribbean destination considering the similar climates.

If Miami's unemployment remains as high it is (far higher than the national figure) then you may see an outflow of Haitians and Haitian-Americans -- as well as Cubans and others with roots in the Caribbean -- to places like Houston, Dallas, etc. Over the last few years, I've heard anecdotally that a lot of Brazilians and Argentinians in South Florida have gone back home as their economies have improved. Since going back to Haiti at this point really isn't an option for Haitians here, I would expect to see many moving to other parts of the US.

My hubby is Haitian and I am Jamaican. We are both moving to the Houston area soon from West Texas. We are originally from NJ so we know of the huge Haitian and Jamaican population there. I hope to see more Caribbeans flock to the Houston area in the upcoming years.

I could see it happening; some do consider Houston an alternative to Miami.

That's interesting. Alot of people made seem like there were no Caribbean people in Houston.

I know, but some posters overexaggerated the small Caribbean population.

That's because in relative numbers compared to the East Coast, it is small. I would bet Houston has a larger Nigerian population than Caribbean population. I don't know if Houston would ever become a hot spot for people from the Caribbean. But it has the potential since it is on the gulf and it is a city is creating jobs. But don't expect for it to become a New York or a Miami.
