I am required to have carpet cover most of my newly purchased apartment. This means I need to buy carpet and install it.

I have never done this, have no experience; don't know what tools I might need, let alone how long it takes.

It's a small 1 bedroom apartment; the bedroom already has carpet. The whole apartment is between 600-700 square feet. The bathroom, kitchen, and foyer area (area right by the front door, coat closet) need no carpet.

Suggestions, advice? Thanks!

I would check with a surplus carpet store, find a good remnant and for a little extra money they would also install it for you. Installing carpet is not an easy task. You have to stretch it to get the right look. Good luck!

With no experience, I would strongly suggest hiring someone to do the installation. There is nothing more trashy than a wrinkled, saggy carpet in my opinion.

Here's another idea. Get carpeting that goes from wall to wall and have all four sides finished. A carpet store can do this for you. I did this when I moved into an apartment years ago. I went to a carpet store that specialize in wall-to-wall and they finished the sides. They delivered it, I unrolled my carpets and presto wall to wall without being wall-to-wall tucked under baseboards carpeting.

This way you will be able to comply with the condo requirements and save yourself a few headaches. :-)
