It's just been reported that Chicago Blackhawks owner William W. Wirtz passed away early this morning (http://blackhawks.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=338366 - broken link) after a recent battle with cancer. He was 77. Wirtz, who was recognized as one of the driving forces behind Chicago's United Center, is survived by his his wife Alice, their five children Rocky, Gail, Karey, Peter and Alyson, and seven grandchildren.
I think it's really sad because although Wirtz was tight fisted and pretty much mangled the Blackhawks from the inside, he was a great philanthropist and did loads of charity work. He wasn't much of an owner but he was a wonderful human being.

To everyone BUT Blackhawk fans.
