Hello,

We live in the DC area, and have started thinking about purchasing a vacation place (townhouse) in the VA beach area. My grandmother lives here, and have visited the area quite a few times, but we always hung out around the touristy area. After reading this forum, I realized that there are quite a few areas that we should stay away from. We are not familiar with any areas other than where all the hotels are. What are good/safe/decent neighbordoods to purchase a decent townhouse in the 200k range. WE've heard South of Dam Neck is good, Ocean Lakes, as well. We would like to be as close to the water as possible. We don't care to be close to the happening areas (touristy) as our main purpose will be spending relaxing weekends at the beach house.

Could you please be explicit with neighborhood names, as well as zip codes, as we don't really know where they are located?

Thank you!

depending on what your bedroom needs are and if you're opposed to condo developments, i like Great Neck Grove Condos. The ones I've been in have all been two story condos.

Sandbridge is good a little far from the rest of Virginia Beach but its right next to a quiet beach. Also North end is good! Also bayfront communities next to First Landing State Park on Shore Drive!

Andreea..
Lindsey1151 mentions a lot of nice areas in VB (especially the North End which is basically between 40th & the upper 80th streets,), but unfortunately you'd have a hard time buying a shed up there for 200K..

Hilltop is pretty nice, and there are homes for under 200K off Laskin Road, that are roughly 2 miles to the Oceanfront. The zip is 23454, streets near First Colonial & Laurel.. Steve Lane, etc (primarily in between Laskin Rd & Wolfsnare )

Another really cool beach area is Chic's Beach (& Ocean Park) which are the Shore Drive & Pleasure House Road area (and scrolling east to the Lesner Bridge), which would be the north part of 23455 along the Chesapeake Bay. But I think it's tough to buy for 200K there. Maybe an older smaller cabin somewhere @ Chic's Beach ? Somebody might correct me on that.. But you should drive around Lookout Road even if u don't buy out there, it's a cool, more secluded beach.
peace ~

If your not against condo's instead of a townhouse you should still be able to find a 1 bedroom condo in one of the buildings along chicks beach in your price range, it too can get crowded in the summer but not as much of a tourist crowd and a lot more interesting than ocean lakes!
