Uggghhhh. I have really thick hair that's wavy in the summer humidity and totally flat in the winter. In the summer I wear it longer with spiral waves. In the winter, it loses all body and curl so I usually go shorter and layered to build in some volume. My hairdresser talked me into a slight A-line bob and I absolutely hate it. It looks like a wig b/c my hair is so thick. Plus it's taking on a pyramid shape as the bottom poofs out (no matter what product I use) and the top goes completely flat. I have some layers, but the top layers are too long and won't hold any curl or volume at all. I seriously look like the little Dutch boy on the paint can.

Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? I'm going back next week and thinking of getting the bottom point-cut or getting it tapered. I'm going on vacation and when I get back I go back to my 60 hour weeks. I really need to find a cut that looks polished and professional with minimum time and effort on my part. Suggestions?

I think you need more layers to take off the wt so it can fluff up top. I would put some angled cuts on the ends so that it turned inward and more angles to frame your face. Perhaps even some mild highlights to add dimension.

If it loses it's body and curl in the winter it may just be dry. Have you ever tried to deal with it that way? (adding more moisture or making sure to not use drying products?)
Because it kinda sounds like it may be a case of moist roots, dry ends = broomhead.
That happens to me..ugh.

Try doing you ends with some VO5 hot oil to see if it helps till next week.
You can add volume to the roots by drying it up in big curlers or do a multi-directional blow out with your dryer.

Thank you for the tips, Pitt_transplant. Yeah, I'm sure the dryness has something to do with it. I think I'm one of the few people whose hair actually looks better when it's humid outside. I've tried a ton of products on the ends, but hadn't tried V05. I'll pick some up. I've also been using my hot rollers/volumizers and I can get some volume for a an hour or so, but then it goes flat in a really weird way. As in the crown area will be poufy, the midsection goes flat, and the ends pouf out. Oh, I am looking so hot these days

Interesting idea about the angles--I'll mention it to my hairdresser. Thanks
