We are moving from WMass the week after Thanksgiving and are looking for housing (probably a 1 BR) for 3-6 months in the Greenville/Spartanburg area. If you have any recommendations for something that is clean and safe, please respond here or send me a PM. My eyes are about bulging out after lurking in apartment-finding sites and finding a huge disparity of reviews, not to mention horror stories about rodents, roaches, no heat, and the like.
Consider Peachtree Place off W. Georgia Rd. in Simpsonville. New construction, single floor apartments, you’ll only have 1 or 2 neighbors with adjoining walls, a garage... My wife and I rented there while our current house was being built, and we had a pretty terrific experience all around. There aren’t a lot of amenities (no pool, no gym, etc.), but the house-like experience and pleasant community more than made up for it.
We stayed at https://www.crestmontatthornblade.co...greenville-sc/ for a couple months while we were househunting. It’s right off I-85 and Pelham Road behind the Michelin headquarters so convenient to everything. It was clean, very quiet, and didn’t have a bug problem and about $1100ish for a one-bedroom, washer dryer and some utilities. I seem to recall electric was extra but it was a small place so pretty cheap.
We also rented a one-car garage and used it for storage instead of a storage facility off-site.
It was also gated.
We had a short term lease (3 months??, I’m not sure) but it worked well.
I investigated 20-30 complexes in Greenvllle, and several of them did leases as short as 3 months. I think that's because of the many professionals moving here temporarily for projects. This site lists complexes that offer short term leases, but I don't know how accurate it is (I do see Haywood Pointe is not on it, and as I recall, they offer short term leases too):
As LynchburgLover points out, you have to be careful interpreting negative comments on sites like apartmentratings and yelp. In one case, it looked like the same person was coming back under different logins and making the same complaints about the landlord over and over again -- and the clue was she kept using the same phrase over and over in all her complaints. The core issue seemed to be some dispute over a charge or nonpayment of rent - pretty clearly the complainer's fault, not the complex. Bear in mind, too: you're looking for a temporary place, so even if it's not perfect, you won't have to put with it for long.
