hi all,
i'm a single male in my late 30's with no dependants and i am strongly considering a move from the COLD, northern midwest. i went to ****.com and took their survey and greensboro, nc came up on my list. what can you folks share with me about this area? cost of living, apartment rent and availability, employment opportunities, commutes, weather (i don't need 4 seasons and have had enough snow to last me a lifetime) and anything else you can think of. schools are of little importance to me because i don't have any kids.
i'm planning to make my move around august or september and would greatly appreciate any info that anyone can provide. as you can see by my username, i need to get out!!!
To Needtogetout...I live 1 1/2 hrs from Gso. It is growing but not as wildly as Charlotte or Raleigh. It is more service oriented than white collar. The downtown is being redeveloped into more nightlife activities. It is very family-oriented and not particular single-oriented, like a larger city. Rent and housing very reasonable. Greensboro and Wilmington are my favorite towns in NC. Good Luck!
In general, the Greensboro area is a nice place to live. My extended family and in-laws live there. They all really like it. The snowfall 30-year average is 8.6", rain 42.6" according to (National Oceanic/Atmospheric Association) NOAA's Local Climatological Data.
First time poster here, hoping to move to the Greensboro area sometime next year, Son and Grandaughter moved last year and we hope to join them. Don't want to be too close as we are moving to retire, 20-30 miles outside Greensboro would be nice.
If you're older, I keep hearing things about pleasent garden or some such place.
Greensboro seems like it leads a double life. Not to exciting and not the best atmosphere for singles past 30 but lots of shopping and antiques for older people and a good area for couples.
If you are under 30 though, it has TONS of nightlife and with all the colleges, you can always find a good time and a pretty face.
Depending on what you're looking for Apartment's can range from $500 for a single bedroom to around 900/1k depending on where you want to live. Google downtown greensboro inc and I believe their website has rental availability in downtown.
Downtown is growing it's a lot fun w/ bars and such. The new baseball stadium has helped quite a bit.
If you looking 20-30 minutes out. You could look around Stoney Creek which is between Burlington & Greensboro. Also a lot of new condos coming up in Burlington as well.
