Hi

What would be a good city to live in within a 30 min drive radius (max) around Hartwell?
By good city I mean safe, good public schools, things to do, reasonably priced houses, etc...
I was told Greenville - SC is the best, but it's 1 hour away.....It's too far !!!

Stephens County (Toccoa) and Madison County (Danielsville and Comer) are probably the best school districts in that corner of the state. Both are about 30 minutes from Hartwell. Madison County is a suburb of Athens, so you'd have the advantage of being close to all the wonderful amenities that city offers. Franklin County (Lavonia and Royston) Schools are fairly good, but it's pretty rural. Hart County and Elbert County are pretty bad.

I'd look hard at Madison County because of the Athens factor.

Newsboy has it right; Stephens and Madison Counties are about the only good options for a 30 minute drive to Hartwell. Toccoa will put you over an hour from Athens, but within 45 minutes of Clemson, SC.

Check in on Anderson, SC, as well. A few more amenities than Toccoa, but not nearly as many as Athens.
