It may not be a city at all, just a particular section of the county. I worked on the census last year, and I live in a rural area. The counties were divided into sections, there were no cities or towns.
Look at the top of the page to see the name of the Post Office. Likely a community name of some type, whether it exists now or not, was used. Even if it no longer exists, it can give you a starting point to find the modern location which may be out in the middle of nowhere or it might be going by a different name.

I don't think the 1850 Census recorded the post office - that was introduced on the 1860 Census. Of course, if the family was still living in the same place in 1860, that would work.
