That's a tall order for $700.00 a month in Colorado. You better raise that to around $1200.

Why so high? Is it the dog or the 3 bedrooms?

You will not find a 3 bedroom apartment in Fort Collins for anywhere near $700 a month. Fort Collins has the most expensive rent in Colorado next to Boulder.

Most decent one bedrooms in Fort Collins will run you at least $800/month. Most three bedrooms will run you at least $1000+/month.

Fort Collins has an extremely high quality of life and is not cheap because of that reason. The dog will add extra costs not even factored into the base figures that I provided in the last paragraph.

Unlike many other places, rent isn't necessarily cheaper outside of Fort Collins. Craig's List is an excellent source to find out what you can get for what you're willing to pay.

This is definitely true. When I was living there 10 years ago while going to CSU, I believe our 1 bedroom apt. ran us $800/month and the 3 bedroom house we shared with 4 people cost $1200/month. It's always been pretty high. If your not as picky, you might find a modular home in a trailer park at that price, but even that may run you closer to $800.

If you really can't afford about $1000/month or more for a 3 bedroom place in Ft. Collins, you will probably have a hard time making ends meet there.

You might want to do some research outside this forum on Fort Collins or Colorado in general.

Based on your original post on the thread, I would have to guess you are coming from a much cheaper place like the midwest or Texas. If that's the case, in that you are wanting to relo from a place with a lower cost-of-living, you might be in for 'Colorado Sticker Shock'.

But, to answer your question it is both the dog and the 3 bedrooms. I am guessing because of the popularity of Colorado, landlords have their pick of tenants. You are competing for housing in a tight market.

BTW, how are you going to pay the rent? If you need a job, the economy isn't so robust there right now.

Fort Collins is getting to be an extremely popular place to live and as one of the RPs advises, it has a high quality of life. I think it's all relative since FC is reinstituting emissions testing on cars next month.

I lived in Springfield Court for about a year and a half. It is income based but was very safe. PM me if you'd like more info, my rent was about $700 for a 3 bdrm.

And it is VERY hard to find a house/duplex with 3 bdrms in that price range. The cheapest I've seen is $1100.
