Hi all,

We are wrapping up our first full year having moved to the Phoenix area and are looking to make a trip to Flagstaff to play in the snow in the next couple weeks.

We have 2 kids, one 4 and the other 2. Having never been to Flagstaff before, I was hoping you all could point me to a couple places are would be easy to find some places to play in the snow? We are looking for minor minor sledding and then just play.

I don't know Flagstaff area at all - is it all covered in snow? If so, maybe the best way to "play" is just VRBO/AirBNB and then walk outside the house and play? lol!?

Or maybe there are some parks/areas to play?

Thanks for any advice you're able to give,
J

Well...doesn't look very "snowy" right now... Flag Webcam My guess for snow play areas would be up by Snow Bowl. When they get a LOT of snow...Fort Tuthill opens the Flagstaff Snow Park...not sure if it is open now or not though.

This thread had some good info on it-

Snow! Finally

I know on the 180 North West of Flagstaff there is a ton of snow left and it was like Disneyland there last weekend. Tons of people with kids pulled off to the side playing in the snow. Please if you go that route to play in the snow only pull off in areas that are safe. Much of it is designated as Emergency pull off only. It was pretty dangerous last weekend.

More snow coming Saturday. If you plan to book a hotel things are pretty booked this time of year. Look in advance. Just FYI.

I also suggest Payson and the white mountain area (Pinetop, Snowflake) for snow.

I'm sure you actually meant Pinetop and Show Low. Snowflake is kind of the banana belt around these parts. They don't get near as much.

That said, you can always find some snow at Sunrise Ski Resort. There's plenty of hotels in Show Low, Lakeside and Pinetop.

But be warned, this is the most terrible part of this terribleâ„¢️ state. . . .

Word to the wise. Do not play in the first snow. Lots of bad stuff in the air, and the snow brings that bad stuff down. You and your kids will get sick. Wait for the second snow and play in that.
