They say the preppy look is coming back, although I've seen preppy stuff on sale at JCrew for a few years now.

Found this slide show in the NY Times. What are your thoughts? Yay or Nay?

Preppy never really went out of style, did it? Of course, the exaggerated preppy-on-steroids look did, but do chinos and button down shirts ever go out of style?

Of course, those guys in the slide show just look plain goofy. LOL. Shorts and sport coats ... no thanks.

But I do I like the classic preppy look. Garanimals for adults.

The classic buttoned-down prep look is one thing, but one thing I can live without is popped collars.

I prefer the preppy/classic look to a lot of stuff I've seen lately.....but I agree about the popped collars.

That slide show is dreadful. But like most fashion shows, it is an exaggeration of what to expect.
Like others have said, preppy was never out of style. Good material and classic lines and cuts are never a bad investment - especially in this economy!
If I remember correctly, preppy was really big at the start of the last recession.

All one of these entertainers has to do (especially a popular rapper like Kanye West), is start rockin' that look, in those slide show pics, and it'll be all the rage....

The only people who would not look totally ridiculous sporting this look are NE prep-school students, (and even they look ridiculous sometimes) which is why they (obviously) shot this at a private school of some kind.
I think that it's weird that they dressed up grown men like this. Especially the guy wearing a blazer with shorts. Most [grown] men that I know where a jacket with long trousers.

Adult men should NEVER wear shorts out of the house unless they are at the beach. Grow up already.

The shorter shorts for men are coming back. Notice I said "shorter shorts," not short shorts. Anyway, I think there has always been an element of the preppy look that has stayed with us. The only style I feel has to go is wearing your pants so low that your underwear stick out. If you want to wear your pants low, fine, just put a pair of shorts on underneath. I believe that style is going away.
