I recently moved into DSM (about a month ago) and I want to sell my car since I no longer need it. The thing is it is registered in Missouri, title and all. I also have a Missouri driver's license. Since I don't have a prospective buyer, i most probably would go to a dealer. My question is, would I be able to sell my car to a dealer (would they accept an out-of-state car)? Also, which would be a better option: go back to Missouri to sell my car, or, complete my paperwork and sell it in Iowa?

To give a better context, I am not a US resident and I will be leaving the country soon. Moving to Iowa was only because I needed a place to stay for a couple of months so I went to my friend's.

Thanks for helping me out!!

Not all dealers will buy cars outright, but if you find one that does I don't think the fact that it's registered in Missouri should be an issue as long as the paperwork is all in order. Iowa law does require you to register your car within 30 days of moving to the state, so if you've been in Iowa longer than that I wouldn't bring it up.

Generally, you'll get more for your car if you sell it yourself to another private party. Lots of websites or Craigslist can be used to do this and websites like KBB or Edmunds will help you correctly value your vehicle so you know how much you should be able to get for it. Not sure if the out-of-state thing is really much of an issue, but not an expert on that.
