Hi, my family has lived here for a couple years and have not been able to really connect with diverse families similar to our own. We met some really nice Iowans, but always feel like outsiders. I really love Des Moines for the low cost of living, safe neighborhoods, schools, but my husband wants to move! It's my New Years resolution to comb the area for a good group of peers. Any advice on where to find more diverse families? I have tried moms clubs, community classes, YMCA, I baked dozens and dozens of cookies for neighbors in hopes of meeting people but it hasn't worked. Maybe I live in the wrong area (West Des Moines)?

#1 you are in Iowa, so diversity is going to be lacking if you don't search it out. #2, you compound it by locating to a suburb which tends to be some of the least diverse places to live.
Is there diversity, yes. Hoover High School currently counts 30 languages spoken. The church I attend on the northwest side of Des Moines has as saying - "we worship in 4 different languages, and pray in 10."
