You could take I-70 east or Colfax east. But why?

Actually I would take Montview or 14th to Yosemite headed east and then Colfax depending on the hours because 70 likes to back up most mornings. Maybe Blake to Smith Road to Quebec up to Montview headed east.

The commute would be around 20 minutes by car, 45 minutes to an hour by bus on the 15.

Loving? Was that a Freudian slip?

It doable, not enjoyable.

Why not Stapleton, or Lowry?

Aurora is pretty big - 143 square miles, so NE Aurora is pretty vague.

It's ~9 miles from LODO to Fitzsimons . Hop on Colfax (via Speer probably) in decent traffic in decent whether and you're there in 20 minutes. I can't imagine eastbound Colfax in the morning and westbound Colfax in the afternoon see much rush hour traffic. Through Denver 14th Ave would even be quicker as it's 1-way and the lights are timed well (once in Aurora I'd hop back over to Colfax).

If your work is more north - say I-70 and I-225 - I might take Broadway to Brighton Blvd to I-70. I'm not sure what rush hour is like on I-70 leaving the city in the morning and returning in the afternoon (never really driven it those times of day), but I can't image it's that bad. I'd try and avoid using I-25 to get to I-70 though. Again, I'd estimate somewhere in the 20, 25 minute range.

Of course, one accident or 4 inches of snow and your commute time doubles.

For bus commutes, it really depends specifically on where you are going to and from. You can use RTD's trip planner to see what kind of commute that would be.

They will have light rail in Stapleton, but it is 4 years or so away. It will connect the airport with the station downtown.

There are "lofts" in Stapleton, but is and Lowry are both in-fill developments with new construction. Not really the same feel as the older stock and both 15 minutes or so from downtown downtown.

I can assure you the earlier suggestion to take Colfax during those times is a bad idea. 13'th, 14'th 17'th or Montview are all going to be quicker. Colfax can be quicker during the middle of the day and night if you hit all of the lights.
