I am having an infected tooth extracted tomorrow and they said they do not have sedation only local. I am scared and nervous. The tooth is hurting already very badly. Is there a way I can get them to put me out?
Well, you could see another dentist or an oral surgeon. If the dentist that you are seeing does not do IV sedation, then they don't do IV sedation. They don't have the equipment, and honestly, you don't want a dentist to put you under who does not do it often.
Do you think that having an anti-anxiety pill beforehand would help?
It's really not that bad. REALLY. When I was a resident, I had a wisdom tooth split in two while I was on call. I HAD to get it taken care of the next day because, as I was on call in the cardiac care unit, I had to be on call again the next night. There was no choice: local anaesthesia and extraction of the remaining half of the tooth. Not great, but not painful. AT ALL.
for the vast majority of people sedation (iV) in not needed. However, some people it is the only way. Some need oral sedation. You should ask your dentist if he can prescribe sedative meds before your appointment.
I had one of my wisdom teeth pulled about 8-10 years ago with local, it wasn't bad. No pain to speak of just a lot of pulling to the point I felt like I was going to be pulled out of the chair by my tooth.
Well I had my tooth pulled and it did not hurt at all, only pressure. I do have a lot of pain now and the gums are still infected, but I have meds for that. Hopefully it will be healed in a few days!
I had a wisdom tooth pulled at the hosital. The doctor nearly kllled me with sedation. The next 20 were pulled the same morning with a local. Ask the doc if he uses 'laughing gas" It works just as well as sedation. You won't care what they do - and you will not be scared or nervous. You do need a driver as your reflexes won't be as sharp.
I had my wisdom teeth (all impacted) removed with only local; I refused sedation. It didn't hurt at all. I had no pain during the procedure, even when they were digging my impacted teeth out of the jawbone. The injections were the worse part--a couple in the roof of my mouth and a couple elsewhere. The injections were definitely the worst part, but my dentist did a good job of pre-numbing the area before doing the injections, so they didn't hurt going in, but it was just that there were so many.
