There are some smaller town homes in Craig Ranch in the Mckinney just starting now. I looked at them as a possibility for myself. They start around 250k for 1500sft and have 2 car garage. About a mile from 121 on Alma.

Plano and Richardson would be your best bet.

I am about to put my ~900 sqft townhome in Richardson up for sale soon, and I know they are in fairly good demand.

There are some perfectly fine condos around Avondale and Oak Lawn near downtown that are selling around $150k for 2 bedroom units.
If you like to travel, the proximity to Love Field is hard to beat

I do see nice apartments in the area, which would have been perfect if they were condos.

Is this just a Dallas trend in preferring bigger spaces? I think that there would be retirees in the area who would like to stay in the northern suburbs but don't care for mowing the lawn and want to downsize to a nice smaller condo? Or perhaps I just didn't look in the right areas?

Thank you in advance for any insight.
Doesn't meet your "newish" requirement, but I just put my condo on the market in Plano yesterday, ~900 sq ft, zip 75023. It's more like a duplex, than the typical apartment-style condo. I've already had close to 20 showings so far yesterday & today, and I'm hoping it's under contract by Monday.

This certainly seems to be the case. I saw a ton of newer upscale apartments right near the Legacy Town Center in Plano but no such condos on sale. The only thing I could find were much larger townhome style condos and the prices started around low-mid 400K.

Wow, 20 showings in two days?! The Plano housing market must be on fire!

[quote=numbersguy100;43629043]there is a condo tower going up in Plano near legacy west. But it's pricey. It would seem to meet most of your requirements though[/q"uote]

Do you know what the price range is and what the condo tower is called?

EDIT: I think I just found an article on it. "Unprecedented demand" and "the smallest units start at more than $500,000"! Unfortunately that's way out of my price range..

Also check the Plano-adjacent, northern/Collin County suburb of Allen.

Very safe! And there are couple of town home developments there that are very nice and geared toward what you're looking for. (we rented at the Villas at Twin Creeks before purchasing a house).

1038 Audrey Way, Allen, TX 75013 - Home For Sale and Real Estate Listing - realtor.com®

Cottonwood Creek and Sun Creek (which is on the Plano/Allen border) are also very nice developments; most units sell quickly!

Since you said Northern Suburbs, I am taking that to mean Collin/Denton and north of the (?) PGBT.

Today I saw some additional townhomes around $268K in McKinney on Hardin between Eldorado and Virginia Pkwy.
