we are retired and living in North Carolina, but want to relocate to Texas. Is Prosper a
good area to consider? Thanks for any help.

Depends on what you are looking for and what you like to do. What is the budget?

We moved to Prosper from Greenwich ,CT 5 years ago and have been thrilled. If you want to live within minutes of major shopping, entertainement and conveniences yet still be on a large lot and live in a community with a small town feel, Prosper is a great choice. Here is some info on just a few things developing currently...

Big Changes In Store for Prosper

It takes me 35 minutes to get to Dallas on the Tollway. Prosper borders Mc Kinney and Frisco. Prosper is a 10-15 minute drive to Plano and Denton.

Prosper is a great location for retirees. A colleague's parents just built a brand new house in Cedar Ridge Estates. They have friends who are retired and they did the same last year in Cedar Ridge. If your price point is $240,000 plus I would suggest Cedar Ridge. The town has many events and fundraisers. Residents are very involved and supportive....

We also moved here from NC and did tons of research before selecting Prosper. It is only 6 miles north of Frisco, which has all the shopping and restaurants. Jerry Jones (Cowboys owner) owns a ton of land out his way and he is going to build an awesome shopping area in Prosper.

Schools are awesome and you would not believe the new High School. If you kids play sports Prosper has the best baseball and softball fields in the entire state. ZERO crime and friendly people. Send me a message for more questions! What price range of house are you looking for in Prosper?

OP said they were retired, so unless it's early retirement, probably not applicable. That being said, also good to note that Baylor is building big, brand new hospital and medical center there opening this summer.

Personally, if I'm retiring to DFW area, I might pick an area closer to one of the lakes, but that's just me...

Didnt see the retired part, sorry. I can say most of Prosper is the younger crowd, so I am not sure of the fit. If you want to get more country with a short drive to stuff look past Prosper in Celina and Gunter. Very small towns off the beaten path. Larger yards and more privacy.

Don't really want more country. We are retired (late 50's) but not dead! Want a safe, active area.

I would be absolutely bored to tears in Prosper! I hate yardwork, hate driving miles and miles to go into the city or airport. Hate tons of new construction. But, when I was in my 30's with kids at home, it might have been a place I would have found appealing.

I would think if you want an "active" area, you would want to be closer to the city where there is more going on. The new construction aras on the fringe of the metroplex tend to attract mostly young families who are looking for cheaper housing, or a master planned community with pools, etc.
