Need a recommendation for good Italian restaurant in the new haven area wee are not from the area And anniversary is coming up at the end of the month and we want to go somewhere out of the Middletown area.

I googled and a bunch of stuff came up I looked at brazis and the reviews were mixed people said it was a higher end Olive Garden type place and the food was no good

Then I saw a place called LoMonaco but that one also had mixed reviews and people said the food taste funny and it was rubbery the chicken.

Can some locals from that area please give us some recommendations

Thanks

Hi there,

Tre Scalini has been a fixture on Wooster St for a while now, and although not as well known as the pizza places, it is good Italian.

Tre Scalini Ristorante
100 Wooster Street
New Haven, CT 06510
TEL: (203) 777-3373

Happy anniversary and buon appetito!

There’s a lot. I’m just going to comment on the ones I’ve been to.

L’Orcio, Skappo in New Haven are probably the best traditional Italian. NOLO is excellent more creative Italian. Tarry Lodge is very good too. Olives and Oil is solid.

Roia is an Italian/French mix and is superb with an incredible grand space for an anniversary.

In Milford, Seabreeze Kitchen & Pizza is excellent, but a casual/beachy atmosphere. River Street, BIN 100, and Fratelli’s are solid.

I hear Gusto in Milford and Caffe Bravo in New Haven are good.

L’Orcio is mine and my wife's absolute favorite. Both of us have been to Florence and Rome multiple times and I'd say they come closest to traditional, authentic Italian food. The atmosphere is warm and bustling (lots of chatter, laughter and wine) but may not fit your bill for an anniversary atmosphere.

Tarry Lodge is great but a smidge below L'Orcio. They're a little bit more creative and slightly less traditional with their menu. Similar bustling atmosphere to L'Orcio.

Bin 100 in Milford is good, but IMO, not quite "anniversary" level. Milford is also an additional 15 minutes for you beyond New Haven coming from Middletown.

I'll yet to try Stylo's other recommendations, but as a local, all of those restaurants are held in positive regard.

Yeah, Bin 100 is fine, but I agree - not worth the drive.

Used to love it. Strangely last time I was there - just ok. Haven't been back since.
