I'm thinking of buying a house in Danbury and wanted to know how long the commute would be from Danbury(Candlewood Lake) to Stamford leaving at like 7am, and then from Stamford to Danbury leaving at like 4 or 5pm? I'm not to familiar with Route 7. Are these the worst times to go on there? Is the traffic going the other way? Please let me know. Thanks.

From Danbury to Norwalk along Route 7 will be a headache during the rush hour. Without traffic, it would normally take about 30 minutes to Norwalk plus another 10-15 to Stamford. During the rush, your commute can be easily 80 minutes. It's gotten better with the extra lanes on the Danbury/Ridgefield line but I can't imagine the commute is any better in Wilton. They are currently widening it there too but it looks to be at least a year before it's finished. You may be better off taking 84 to 684 to 287 to 95. I'm not sure if this would be any faster during rush hour, however.

I can only speak from experience of the Merritt/95 part from Route 7 to Stamford, but I think the whole commute will be the same: congested and slow.

I couldn't do it on a daily basis, but plenty of people do. I suppose it gets down to your personal tolerance for highly congested driving.

Take the train. I commute daily by train between Danbury and Stamford. It's a 1hr journey each way direct between Danbury and Stamford.

As the train starts at Danbury you'll can always get your seat of choice to Stamford. Depending on the return journey it either starts at Stamford or NYC. Either way I've never had any issue getting a seat.

It's not an electrified route which has advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages - power outages on the NH line have little direct effect.
Disadvantages - sometimes our train gets requisitioned to cover the NH line if there are power problems.

In my experience the trains on this route are rarely delayed. Extreme bad weather can affect them though as it's a single track line - but in those cases road travel would likely be hit too.

A season ticket costs about $82 p/m. Parking at the Danbury station lot is $250 p/yr.
A lot of companies operate shuttle buses to and from the workplace in Stamford.

Check out the MTA schedule to see if this option would fit for you.

I should have included this with the last post. If ever I have the need to drive into work I take I84-I684-I287-I95.

Further round but generally less hassle.

This thread is not relevant to what you're doing, which is Stamford to Danbury.

I second Sylko on taking the train. Rt. 7 traffic can be annoying while 95 traffic can be outright frustrating. I take the train from Wilton to Stamford once or twice a week (especially on Fridays in the summer) and it is very pleasant. Plenty of seats and it tends to run on time.

It's a 50 minute to hour drive.
