Having gotten hooked on Ancestry.com I have traced our family roots back to Connecticut. Here the trail becomes rough. The Balbour records are fantastic but about the time of my ancestors birth it seems there had been several children born of the same name: Asa Barnes. As you can well imagine you can go on a wild goose chase if tracing back on wrong Asa Barnes. My question is this is there actual birth records that would show Father and mother available for back in the mid to late 1700's. I may have to order on all of the children born of that name about that time but I believe I have enough information to determine which is correct by parents names.

Where in Litchfield County? We don't have county governments in CT. Anything that is available would be within individual municipalities, I believe.

I would start with the Town Clerk (municipal government) for birth records.

I am a genealogist with some experience in Connecticut. The amount of detail in the birth records varies with the town. Some have only the father's name. You could also cross-check the baptism records available in the State Library or from the Mormons' Familysearch web site.

Default Connecticut Lineage

I have had difficulty until recently when some hints had been posted to my Ancestry.com trees. If not knowing what that is it is when you create a tree developing lineage of your family line others who may be researching may offer their information which you can integrate into your own family tree. It appears that Enos Barnes Author of "Journal of a Revolutionary Soldier" would be my second great grand uncle and G. Asa Barnes in that same family line. I wanted to establish this so that I may apply to "Sons of the American Revolution". The journal is very interesting in that it records accounts from 1775 up through 1782. One of the records speaks of being at a body of water near Trenton preparing to cross. This is about as exciting information as it could be and incomprehensible that something so noteworthy would not be passed down from generation to generation. I will assure my descendants are aware of this amazing account and hope that they pass it down to their children and so on.
