What is the best route to get from CoSprings to Telluride in winter weather or is it even advisable for an inexperienced winter driver. Any other options?

Take one of the 3 main routes to US 50 - either up Ute Pass to South Park and down to 50, or highway 115 to 50, I-25 to Pueblo to 50. In Montrose head south on 550 to Telluride. Taking 160 from I-25 to Durango and up through Silverton would be a more difficult and also considerably longer drive.

There is a regional airport in Telluride - you could try to fly there from Denver, although I'd imagine that's pretty expensive. https://tellurideairport.com/

Montrose airport is also an option and is the main jet service port for Telluride.

Also, there are numerous shuttles from Montrose Airport to the town of Telluride (and Mountain Village) where visitors will not need cars at all.

OP there is a HUGE storm that will be impacting the San Juan mountains today (Wed 11/27) and into Thanksgiving. We’re talking feet of snow. If you don’t have an excellent 4WD or AWD vehicle and experience driving in dangerous high impact winter weather, I recommend you stay home. If you must go don’t go down over Wolf Creek pass through South Fork. The eastern San Juans are going to get hit the hardest. Try going North of the Range through Gunnison on Hwy 50 to Montrose then once you’re on the west side of the range, head south to Ridgway and on to Telluride. No matter how you go make sure you have emergency supplies ... food, water, flashlight, and a way to stay warm (blankets, sleeping bag) in your vehicle in case things go wrong.
