Can anyone tell me what the "true" travel time is between, say, Manitou or Fountain and Colorado Springs "proper"? I've been researching the job market and see that most of the opportunities for me would be inside of COS, but I want to relocate to one of the above areas.

What do you mean by "proper"? Downtown? About ten minutes - by bike. A lot of people work on the military bases which are sort of on the outskirts (except Peterson). I think I had the absolute longest drive of anyone in the region (Monument to Schriever AFB) and it wasn't that bad - long, 50 minutes - but no traffic. There's also a big center of employment in the north end north of Woodmen up to around the AFA. So from Manitou, maybe 25 easy minutes.

Yeah, sorry. I mean downtown, I guess. I'm not sure how the city is laid out.
I've seen cities laid out in so many different ways. Here it's 20 mins from one side of town to the other. We are 35-40 mins from the "big city" Jacksonville.
My aunt lives in Vegas where it could take you 1-1&1/2 hrs to get from one end of town to the other.
I guess I was refering to the lay out of the area as well as the traffic.
Thank you for the traffic answer. I had heard that it was getting a little thick there.

Careful with the quotes...Manitou to downtown is a couple of minutes, not 25 minutes.

I'm sorry, Charles. I must have misunderstood what you were saying. The way it read you meant 25 easy minutes to COS from Manitou.

And, hey, when did you live there? I read your settings that say you are in Alabama now. Just curious how long it has been since you were there.

And I take it from the "couple of minutes" that the city is somewhat compact?

Manitou to the area up near the AFA 25 minutes. Manitou to downtown, a couple of minutes. The AFA is in the extreme northern end of Colorado Springs and there are lots of jobs in that area. I lived near Monument and worked at Schriever AFB east of Colorado Springs. My drive was quite long but no traffic, easy and mostly scenic.
