Since people often come here looking for help with the college search I thought it might be helpful to have a thread listing some sites and books.
My top three favorite College websites are:
Parents Forum - College Confidential I rarely venture out of the Parents forum, but there's a great College Visits review site here
College Campus Visit Reports that I've read and posted on. The main site -
College Admissions, Search, and Financial Aid Help from College Confidential
Excellent search site with a good financial aid section and a place to save your favorite colleges -
CollegeData: College Search, Financial Aid, College Application, College Scholarship, Student Loan, FAFSA Info, Common Application and another one:
http://www.cappex.com/
Colleges that meet 100% of need:
http://www.thecollegesolution.com/li...inancial-need/
Basic data - I use this when I just want the numbers quick -
College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics
My favorite all around book - "Fiske Guide to getting into the Right College"
Amazon.com: Fiske Guide to Getting Into the Right College, 3E (9781402209161): Edward Fiske: Books
College profiles for B students - "Finding the College that is Right for you" -
Amazon.com: Finding the College That's Right for You! (0639785387336): John Palladino: Books
More well known, unique colleges, "Colleges that change Lives"
Amazon.com: colleges that change lives 2010: Books
Great read, "Harvard Schmarvard"
Amazon.com: Harvard Schmarvard: Getting Beyond the Ivy League to the College That is Best for You (9780761536956): Jay Mathews: Books
Right now I'm reading, "Admission Matters"
Amazon.com: Admission Matters: What Students and Parents Need to Know About Getting into College (9780470481219): Sally P. Springer, Jon Reider, Marion R. Franck: Books
Colleges that meet financial need -
http://www.insidecollege.com/reno/Co...ts/349/list.do
And for any parent that has a senior in college and you are a bit apprehensive about this fall I recommend, "
Amazon.com: Letting Go (Fifth Edition): A Parents' Guide to Understanding the College Years (9780061665738): Karen Levin Coburn, Madge Lawrence Treeger: Books

Look at UCAS, the 'common application search tool' for folks wanting to study in the United Kingdom. One can do a course search, find help with choosing a specific course to study, find out what the entry requirements are for studying that course and receive help on figuring out which school is a best fit.
My daughters, both American citizens, have studied/are studying at UK schools. United Kingdom universities can be a good fit for a student who knows what they want to study from day 1. One of my daughter's graduated with a BA in English Literature (from York U. in England) and the other is in year 4 of a 5-year veterinarian program at the U. of Edinburgh, in Scotland.

An interesting website that shows basic stats of individual colleges.
College Results Online You can also plug in one college, hit similar colleges and see several others to compare. I find the expenditure per student quite interesting.

Colleges That Change Lives | Changing Lives, One Student at a Time
I've read the book -
Amazon.com: Colleges That Change Lives: 40 Schools That Will Change the Way You Think About Colleges (9780143037361): Loren Pope: Books: Reviews, Prices & more a couple of times and have visited three colleges in the book, but believe that there are many, many schools out there similar to the CTCL Colleges. Most small private colleges have something about them that make them stand out, the CTCL schools just got a great PR boost because this author published his reviews.
