With all the talk of whether Notre Dame should join a conference or not, you don't hear this argument with Navy and Army. Should Navy and Army join a conference? How come those two independents aren't under as much pressure to join, say The Big East?
Why should they bother. Their biggest game is like a bowl game all on it's own which includes radio, television, and huge audience that includes current and former soldiers and sailors.

No.
There is a reason that they are independents. The military academies use sports as an opportunity to recruit across the country. If you look at their schedules, you will notice that they play across the country.
BTW, the three military academies always head to a bowl game if they have a winning record (of course, with the increasing number of bowl games, nearly anyone can say that).
Because army and navy are entirely different. I mean they don't have any basket weaving majors at either academy like all other teams.
I haven't checked ND, but I highly doubt they have any basket weaving degrees either. The academic standards are said to be quite high compared to most universities.
How did that idea work for Army when they were in C-USA?
It didn't.
Besides, I see a ton of Navy games on CBS College sports along with some Army games. Navy has a deal with them. Also, all the big Navy road games were on TV. Ohio State, Domer High, Hawai'i...
The academies get plenty of money, smaller athletics departments/budgets, a payday game here and there, not sure how AFA does it since they are only good at football consistently. They are a nice name to have and I'd take them over say New Mexico anyday!

Both would be a good geographic fit for the Big East as they're both on the East Coast. They could help the Big East get to 12 football schools and have a conference championship game - I'd also like to see East Carolina & Ohio added.
