The Garrett Gilbert story is still a mystery to me. Was he never really that good in high school and they (Davis?) overrated him? Or was he as good as thought, but he was as good as he ever would be? Meaning he just wouldn't get any better?

I think it might be a bit of both. I think UT didn't play him enough when McCoy's games were out of hand. They padded McCoy's stats instead of giving GG experience. But watching GG play at SMU with different coaching he makes the same mistakes.

As for Manziel - I think as good as he was in high school (his stats were just sick) he is even better now. He is bottled lightning and game after game he makes sensational plays. He still can't throw a fade route - which I bet he gets better at. Kingsbury sure knew how to throw those. I think his speed helps him in the first half of these games - because Florida, LSU, and Alabama have no one on their scout team like Manziel to calibrate with. The good defenses adjust, like Bama did. But Manziel is better today than a month ago. And Sumlin (etc.) will get better adjusting when the defenses adjust.

With Collin Klein looking pedestrian yesterday, we might be seeing Manziel in the lead now...could be the first freshman ever with 3k and 1k yards passing and rushing to get it .

How do his fans feel about him attempting the extra point?

Sumlin explained it as something they did in practice a few weeks ago to break up the monotony of practice. A&M has not had one week off this season. Eleven straight games so far - with the 12th to come this weekend. So they did it for fun.

It didn't work, and I doubt they'll try it again. I think it was silly, but I understand and accept the reasons for doing it.

Yep, very talented kid. I had a feeling he was going to be the one to make A&M be the ones who took down Alabama.

I have tickets to the Cap 1 bowl and I am hoping that A&M go there. JM has had a stellar season, thrown into the SEC with a freshman QB they have lost 2 games to top 5 teams by a combined 8 points AND beaten the potential National Champs.

should he win the Heisman ? IMo yes...will he ? Kirk H summed it upped on college gameday yesterday, the old school may not vote for a freshman.

Perhaps he breaks through the unwritten ban on freshmen winning the Heisman. He deserves it. Breaking Cam Newton's record with only 12 games to Cam's 14 is incredible. He made incredible plays last night. Just like he always does. Opposing teams KNOW what he can do, yet can't stop him. The A&M OL and WRs have adjusted to Manziel's style - the play is almost never over when it seems like it.
