Same questions as prior years Looking for healthy
We are going from Central VA down 95 to Kill Devil Hills and need Paleo, Local, and Organic -Healthy eating or the closest thing to Healthy.
I eat mostly plant based Paleo, have sensitivity to Gluten and Nightshades (tomato, potato, eggplant, peppers and paprika) and even avoid High Histamine foods - and have gotten so used to eating quality fresh minimally processed food that it is hard to eat out.
I LOVE to Fish so I hope I catch some fish on our trip.
IF anyone knows of any Healthy accommodating places please post.
We need ideas for lunch and dinner Kill Devil Hills, NC /OBX area and for travel to and from Richmond via and returning 64 / 258 /158.

Can you help out the rest of us? I thought Paleo meant a meat-based diet.
What can you eat? Fish and a salad bar? Corn on the Cob? Eggs? Milk products like cheese and butter?
At the Cracker Barrel in Emporia, you could get a vegetable plate with cheese grits or brown rice pilaf, or a fish dinner with vegetables. There must be other Cracker Barrel's on the rest of the trip.
If you found an all-day breakfast place, could you eat eggs and grits?
If you found a Mexican place, could you eat a bean burrito on a corn tortilla? What about lard in their cooking?

I have also found a few healthy options at the larger Sheetz convenience stores attached to the gas stations. They have fruit cups, hard-boiled eggs, a few salads, etc.
Different people may take Paleo to mean different things but in general it refers to eating foods that your grand parents or great grand parents would have eaten. No processed foods, no exotic chemical names in ingredients, fresh, garden grown, non GMO, etc. It does not exclude meat and fat but does restrict gluten, sugar etc. Basically our bodies evolved over thousands of years to digest fresh meats and vegetables. Many present day health issues like obesity, diabetes, heart disease etc are being attributed to recent changes (over the last 100 years) in diet like excess sugar, preservatives, gluten and other additives.

OK, so it is not just the "caveman" diet. Our grandparents certainly used cheese, butter and lard, which are "manufactured" to some degree.
I was thinking the same thing! Stop at The Fresh Market or Whole Foods market & pick up the things you would like to cook in your rental. You might find a few restaurants with a couple of items that suit your needs, but not too many.
OP might want to bring food with him/her for the trip, and plan on cooking in while at the OBX.
I'd also suggest carrying some hot, cooked whole grains in a thermos container for the road.
