Shootings are down from the highs during November, December & January, but are still higher than any other previous month in the last 21 years. A high number of shootings are also being incorrectly coded to help keep the overall stats down.

Austin, TX is at 29 after another homicide tonight. There have been entire years in recent history that the city did not see 29 homicides.

If the city keeps the same pace after this first 1/3 of the year, we will end up with 87 homicides, which would be a record if I am not mistaken.
