Just read in the Hartford Courant that Macy's will be closing 100 stores.

Out of all the Ayres, Blocks and Lazarus stores in Indianapolis, only two former Lazarus stores and one former LS Ayres store remain open. There used to be 12 Lazarus stores at one time in the Columbus area. Now there are only 4 stores and I'm guessing the Eastland store is the one on the chopping block. In Dayton, only two stores remain out of all the Rikes and Wren's stores in Springfield. In Mansfield, they close the newly remodeled Lazarus store and moved into the junky Kauffman's store that hasn't been touched since Richland Mall opened in the early 1970s.

Macy's performance has been abysmal. Especially after dumping the local brand names. Their merchandise is polyester and the styles are ghetto. Who shops at Macy's anymore? Terry Lundgren should have been fired a long time ago.

Haven't been in one in many years. If this keeps up they will go the way of Gimbels.

Need a CEO who can redefine the brand and compete. Macy's is not a brand that can just go belly up though, the brand name/recognition will keep it a float. Unfortunately, it is the only thing going for it. Reality is Id get my wife a Christmas gif from Amazon. But It would mean more if I said I got it from Macy's.

Macy's had potential as the department store version of Target. But the condition of their stores is awful. In Columbus they have a relatively new store base, but everywhere else you go the average Walmart or Target is better looking than the condition of a Macy's store.

If any around here close, I would bet it's the location in Tri-County.

Sorry to hear that about Columbus, but this isn't the case in Cincinnati. In this city there's a vast distinction between what Macy's offers in its stores and how its merchandise is displayed vs. that of Target and especially Walmart. Nobody here would mistake the difference.

Too true for many stores. I worked for Macy's in two different stores and numerous departments over a 4 year period and I can tell you you don't want to know what "housekeeping to...(random department)" means. I will just say that the housekeepers at Macy's aren't that great, lol!
