Chicago’s RTO stats have been far above the national average and a bit above NY and LA ever since we started tracking that kind of thing. If nothing else, the Loop will not fare as badly as other city business districts.

That's what I was thinking as well. (just finished reading the "Why do Residents Stay in Chicago" thread, which got closed down by a moderator).

Kim Foxx is done which is a positive. Unfortunately she said in her resignation that she trusts the office is in good hands now that Johnson is mayor and is moving on to other things. I know she was told to step aside. If the city brings in someone more moderate it could have yuge implications on the general feeling of safety which, in turn, would draw in more business.

She didn't resign, she simply declined to run for a third term. That's quite a difference from resigning in that she's still in office and intends to remain there for the duration of her term.

Whether it's a "positive" remains to be seen. People cheered when Madigan resigned; he was replaced as speaker by someone every bit as repugnant and then some. Then people cheered when Lightfoot was given the heave; the voters simply replaced her with Trans Lightfoot on steroids.

I have no illusions they won't do the same for the county SA's office.

I hope you are wrong but you might not be.

The #1 issue is that the jails are essentially full, and they are only putting the nastiest of offenders in there as a result.

Trans Lightfoot! *folds comment into convenient square, puts in pocket for future use*

This is terrible.

"Speaking roughly 24 hours before a ceremony that will see Johnson succeed his similarly aligned predecessor, Terry Duffy said CME Inc. is set to leave the city"

The exchanges are the only things that make Chicago's economy unique at this point.

Update, it's in Crain's as well.

Things are not looking good. I predicted that remote work would not be a temporary thing. Like SF and other major cities, the traditional downtown office culture that was a hub of city life and had massive financial benefits, is not coming back. Ultimately this will, unfortunately, be catastrophic to the city.
