Hi

I'm looking for an apartment downtown near or in the loop. I work on the near west-side, but am currently living up by O'Hare. I'm trying to stay within a $1000 budget.

Thank you.

I know of maybe 1 or 2 buildings still in the greater downtown area in your budget and that's in the Gold Coast for studios. Not that great of buildings. One building is at Dearborn & Maple and the other is Maple & LaSalle. Other than that - not going to find it. Prices are rising in Chicago in these areas and that price is pretty much too low now for a studio.

Your best bet would be to go into some of the outer neighborhoods like Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Bridgeport, Pilsen, Ukrainian Village, Logan Square, Chinatown/Armour Square, etc. Is your workplace somewhat near a transit stop?

Hi marothisu,

I work near Polk St. (Pink Line stop) and it would be ideal if I could find something neat there. I would be able to do either a studio or a 1 bedroom, depending on the price.

Thank you.

Yeah, Pilsen would be easy. It's nothing like downtown but it's a simple ride on the Pink Line for 5 minutes. Otherwise, I'd look for something like East Ukrainian Village and ride the Ashland bus south to work.

About 5 years ago I toured a couple of units in Marina Towers that were $1000/month. Granted those prices could have really changed since then. It will be hard to find a place for that price in the loop. Why are you looking at the loop exclusively?

Oh my, yes Pilsen, I just moved away from Pilsen and had a 2 bedroom for $700 and it was a decent apt--1 block from the Western pink line stop.

Have you checked out Atrium Village? I think the rents there would be in your range.

Welcome to Atrium Village

Welcome to Atrium Village
Atrium Village is located almost directly at the intersection of the Gold Coast, Old Town, and River North. It's not in the Loop, but is an easy commute to the loop through public transportation. Definitely not the most attractive apartments, at least from what I've seen and heard, but it is within the OP's price range (some of the most affordable apartments on the Near North Side), so if the OP values the good location, it could be worth it.
