Also, am I alone in this, but I kind of feel like an idiot if I hang around a bar by myself. When I was in town a few weeks ago looking for apartments, I stopped in a bar in Wicker Park, had a beer and a quick bite to eat, and left. I thought about sticking around, but it just seemed odd. Maybe I'm too self-conscious....not good for someone moving to a new town where he doesn't know anyone.
There is a good one that has it every night, but it isnt in Andersonville, although it is really close to it. It is in Lincoln Square (Budlong Woods sub area) a mile or so west of Andersonville. It is a 4 AM bar too.;-)Its been a dive for decades-now its getting hip though:-( ,but it still works.

Cool, I am more than down with dives. Do most Chicago bars have a 4am last call or is that just some of them? The later the better, I say, especially coming from NYC.

Just some. Maybe 25% or less have 4am. Its 5am on Saturday so you know. The 2's are open till 3am on Saturday.

There used to be a few in the burbs that close down for maybe two hours a day...

There are some old licenses in the City still that although they may close at 12 or 2 am, they open at 9 am or before. Those are the ones that are more valueable when going on a day or more binge. Dont drink and drive though!

I even know a liquor store that sells till 4 am Sun-Fri and 5am on Saturday.

maybe it's because you were in Wicker Park, hah. I've felt uncomfortable sitting in bars alone there, but not other places.

I am looking for ways to meet people such as sports teams, social groups, etc. I am very outgoing and not shy about approaching people. I am hoping meeting new people will not be as hard as living in central IL. Thanks in advance for your opinions/advice.
I'm on the same boat as you except I don't plan to make a move until mid 2008 and I'll have my little sister with me. The problem is I'm not sure where to look as far as jobs are concern because I don't know where I want to live yet. I'm also a 28 year old, single professional who just wants to get away from this dump and live in a cooler city. I also love meeting new people and can't wait to do that.

Is that in Wicker Park?

I actually don't mind some hipsterness - I'm going to a bar in Williamsburg later tonight, after all - but too much and I start to want to rampage through the place lip-synching to some corny Bon Jovi song, just for spite. And I don't even like Bon Jovi.

It's at Division and Western, so I guess it's right at the border of Wicker Park and Ukranian Village? I dunno, that's what my NFT book says ... I never go out that way...It's a pain in the ass to get there and I didn't enjoy it at all. hahah.
