As an outsider, I'm not obligated to choose one or the other; I simply check the schedules to see who's in town for the weekend, and go to that game; I enjoy going to both places. Wrigley's a little more interesting, but there are quite a few people there who really aren't watching the game....

When looking at that map, it's hard to make out state boundaries, esp in the Northeast. I should point out that Connecticut is "divided country" when supporting either the Red Sox or the Yankees. From Hartford south, it's almost all NY...

I am a devoted Cubs fan transplanted to North Carolina. I agree with the above poster, it is difficult to make out state lines on that map...know that North Carolina people...if they even know anything about baseball...are Braves fans. to say that they are fans of the Reds would imply that they were supporting something "northern" which they would NEVER do.

I understand Wrigleyville is obvious, and I know someone will tell me here that they're a Sox fan in a Cubs 'hood (or vice versa) if this thing is true.

My apartment is in West Town, so if my silly inquiry has some validity, please someone tell me it's NOT a Cubs territory (life long Cards fan)!
In my house (Midway Airport area), my mother and brother were Cubs fans. The rest of us were White Sox fans. So the "territory line" ran through our dining room.

Both of those teams are made up of buffoons (with rare individual exceptions) and have been for years, so it's apt that their fans are buffoons.

Let's generalize a little

I lived in Chicago as a huge Cardinals fan quite successfully for two years with few issues. Even went to see the two clubs play at Wrigley. Only one girl, who was wildly intoxicated sitting on a patio in Wrigleyville (and probably hadn't even watched the game), had a word to say to me -- most fans were very respectful, and I was impressed.

Granted, the Cubs won the game, so they were likely in a better mood than they'd have been had they lost (which they did the other 2 of 3, I feel obligated to note!).

I've been to several games between the two at Busch with similar results -- the vast majority of Cubs and Cards fans alike were very respectful.

And I'm the first to admit it, though sometimes it results in horrified looks from friends, that if and when the Cubs finally make it back to the series, I will root for them to win.

I mean best case scenario, the Cardinals win the World Series every year forever more, but I'm realistic enough to accept that they won't win the division or even the wild card every year. And if the Cubs have a good year during one of those off seasons of ours, I'd like to see them go all the way. This drought is getting kind of ridiculous, and even the Cubbies deserve a bone every century or so!

Always nice to hear from the non-sporting segment of CD...

I've found people are just happy to be at ANY baseball game, regardless of who the teams on the field are.
