Oak Brook is west-southwest of downtown Chicago, out near the massive interchange of the Eisenhower (I-290), the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) and I-88. Oak Park is due west of the Loop, about eight miles straight west down Madison Street or the Eisenhower.

I don't really think Oak Park is anything like Schaumburg personally, but it is a suburb, and it will be more spacious that the very dense neighborhoods in the city. That being said it's still almost 4x as dense as Schaumburg and doesn't really have the same feel.

So wondering how transit system was for oak brook. Just want avoid paying those downtown parking fees.

Also; what direction is Oak BROOK & Oak PARK from downtown?
Oak Brook does not have a metra station, however there is a Hinsdale metra station which is not far from the mall area in Oak Brook.

Yes, Schaumburg is NOT very accessible by public transportation.

SFHs start at around 500k. The majority of SFH are over a million. Quite a few in the 2 and 3 million range.

Oak Brook will provide the best and most upscale options that you seem to be looking for closest to downtown WITH a very suburban feeling...but be warned...Oak Brook is very expensive. It does not feel like Schaumburg to me at all only because it feels more "secluded" to me.

Where are you moving from? It is just so odd to me that Schaumburg would be the model place for somebody who hasn't mentioned needing to live in a family oriented place. I am just really curious what kind of environment you are coming from.

Yes, inquiring minds want to know.

I would also consider Arlington Heights & Des Plaines. The Union Pacific Northwest Express train can scoot you to downtown Chicago fairly quick from the heart of these towns. Plus they're both pretty easy drives to Schaumburg as well.

For areas of Chicagoland that are straight up suburban, with as the OP mentioned more spacious, yet with a lot of shopping/dining, etc. . . . Schaumburg is up there if you want to live in areas that are more straight up suburban, but yet lively. Have you been to Woodfield and surrounding areas on a Friday or Saturday night?

It most definitely is NOT urban or eclectic or unique in any way necessarily, but its not like they are living in Wheaton, Tinley Park, Libertyville, or Crystal Lake.

Jeez the amount of my grief I'm getting for liking schaumburg! never knew it was such an unpopular choice.

I just wanted to enjoy a little bit of suburban life (space etc) while still being able to be a part of downtown life. That's the balance im looking for.
