This is besides the point but just how can one be professional and hip at the same time? White collar work and the conformity and work ethic involved seem hardly condusive to hipness, hipness being something that calls upon a detatchment from and contempt for Middle Class values and the disipline and hard work inherant in those values.

Heroin using Jazz musicians are hip, office workers ain't, even "creative" ones with Apple computers and careful beards.

I can't see Lenny Bruce or Red Rodney working 9 to 5 in an office, can you.

I think this is a bit of a dated view of "hipness." Nowadays, one can be an office cubicle denizen by day and a clubbing hipster by night. One can identify these individuals by the white ipod earbuds they wear. It may be a dilution of the traditional definition of "hipness", but its the way things are.

Or Rodney Dangerfield for that matter. Man I loved that guy.

I was taught at an early age of the great entertainers in life.

Besides, my Uncle is much like Rodney. Rodney lives on to me through my Uncle.

I only hope I can pass down to some of the younger people the great people that have come before my generation.

I suggested my towns because I am there, talked with people and am very familiar with the area. I would have to say you GO THERE to find out for yourself. But I stand by my choices.

As far a "hip", in my sense, hip does not mean “Lenny Bruce the hippy” I guess my understanding of "hip" is different from the older people on here. I mean hip in that they do not judge and "think outside the box" have a better socio-vision compared to other areas that truly do discriminate.

My picks were for affordability too. Lagrange is very expensive, but would recommend it as well as South Berwyn.

Who made the comment about the schools in Westchester?? Westchester has great schools and is a very close-knit community.

This is right on. People who live in diverse communities or even ones near diverse communities which share amenities with diverse communities (e.g. Riverside) are just going to be more open minded to cultural variations than their counterparts in more isolated digs. This isn't a bash against anyone, it's just the way it is.

We have friends who live in further out suburbs (which tend to have large and rather uniform "sports cliques" it seems -- I'm probably not describing that well so hopefully people understand what I mean) who make fun of gays all the time. It annoys my wife and I to no end but what are you going to say? It's just their mindset.

That's OK, just feed your pals more roast pork and dumplings (Berwyn caviar) and extoll the virtues of keeping your cash in the mattress (Berwyn Fort Knox) and the Green friendliness of the Berwyn air conditioner--- a rocking chair in the gangway.

So you are totally bashing Berwyn?

Not bashing, poking fun, there's a difference. I don't think there's anything wrong with Bohemian cooking and saving your dough, I doubt you do either.

I lived in Berwyn for awhile and when I lived in Austin used to go over to the Ritz show on Roosevelt. We used to go to Fingerhut's on 22nd for bakery and I've frequented several restuarants in Berwyn, Bouna Beef too.
