I really love the downtown Elmhurst area. Right by the train and the prairie path. Plus there are a bunch of restaurants and museums.

I totally agree on Elmhurst. Spent some time there yesterday for the first time. It is close enough to the city and has a nice walking downtown. Check it out--it is great.

While lacking the "boom town" feel in their North Shore sibblings Evanston and Highland Park, both Winnetka and Lake Forest have very nice downtowns with more to offer (IMHO) than Wilmette, Glencoe, and Lk Bluff.

Evanston has the best downtown of any suburb. Still prefer the city though over any suburb.

Thats just a matter of opinion. My opinion would be that places like Geneva, Naperville, etc, have nicer downtowns.

Steve-O, I agree with Geneva and Naperville is what I possibly envy Arlington Heights would be. I would also add St. Charles into the mix.

St. Charles' downtown is decent, but far behind Glen Ellyn, Geneva, etc, IMO. Too many bars and odd stores like WaMu, etc.
