We are moving from California to Illinois soon and I am trying to find the best place to rent near Romeoville Illinois. I prefer more of a country feel. Less neighbors, but a goos and safe place for a teenage son as well. I am not familiar with Illinois. We are moving there for my husbands job. I know about the weather and thats ok. I also have a few pets. Any suggestions?

1. Affordable
2. Safe
3. Small town feel
4. space between neighbors
5. Low crime rate
6. Good schools or options for education

Thank you

Where is work location ? Romeoville is a SW suburb that is mostly still suffering from the collapse of 2008.

Depending on budget the surrounding towns to the east / NE are generally more desirable

Romeoville is in Will County, one of the more affluent counties in Illinois. My in-laws are educators who built a house there a few years ago and raised two teenage boys. The village of less than 40000 people has three colleges. I believe your son will be fine, regardless of where you live, if you are involved with the schools, homework, sports, school events, etc.. A busy child does not have time for homework, sleep, chores, and trouble.

Romeovile High School is perfroming signficantly below state averages -- ROMEOVILLE HIGH SCHOOL: School Profile

Will Co is far from the most affluent county in Illinois -- Illinois Counties by Income

There are many sad stories of what sorts of problems the collapse of real estate prices have driven people to consider in Romeoville -- Romeoville Man Attempted to Burn Down House in Foreclosure: Police | Romeoville, IL Patch

I strongly would caution that folks that see only the sunnyside of life in Illinois may present misleading advice.

Every city has some kind of sad story. Just look at Chicago, Baltimore, St. Louis, NOLA, etc.. Will is not the poorest county by any stretch. Nearly every high school in Illinois is on the state watch list because of student underperformance. If you are worried about schools, there are private schools near you.

There is less violent crime in farm towns that are situated in counties in the middle of thousands of acres of corn and soybeans. The downside is Internet connectivity for homework. Don't expect LA Internet speeds or abilities unless you snag Comcast. Wireless is another issue. Unlike LA, not every wireless carrier will work well where you live in Illnois. Just because a phone works downtown in Chicago does not mean it works well in the suburbs or in the county.

The "sad stories" of towns like Romeoville are tied directly to the very bad situation that was precipitated by real estate collapse, other towns in the region have recovered far better and I would urge the OP to consider such areas.

Romeoville is probably not one of the areas I would relocate to. I'd probably pick south end of Naperville or Orland Park, you can commute from there and they are better places to live.
