we are looking for our first home in the northwest burbs and found a nice house in hanover park. anyone live there currently that can tell us if this is a good area to raise a family? we have a 5 month old son and will eventually add one more little one to the family. are the schools decent? the neighboorhood looked very nice when we went to see the home. very well kept.

Schools depend on school district. U-46 is meh but Schaumburg D-54 is good. Hanover Park was never my "cup of tea". Me personally, there are other places I would prefer to live.

The pluses of Hanover Park are mostly safety, affordability of purchasing a home and relative uniformity of development -- majority of town was built out in a pretty small window...

Some of the less desirable things : mixed school districts, not really a good value for your property tax dollar, not real convenient to a whole lot of employment centers, and a sort of lack of traditional town center...

There are certainly places that are a lot worse but depending on your budget it may make sense to cross shop some towns that are little more desirable for a bigger bang long term.

It's where you move to, if you get sticker shock from Schaumburg

I like Streamwood better.

Streamwood is the same thing, for people who get sticker shock from Hoffman Estates. Bartlett is probably the best of that cluster. The schools are a bit better, it has a better rep, and a downtown. A cheaper version of Palatine, if you will.
