I am possible moving to the area to take at job at a university in Hammond, IN. Are there any good suburbs south of the city that would be good to take a look at? i am looking for something that is, first and foremost, safe! I am looking to rent, and would be willing to spend up to $1,600/month until we get the lay of the land. We don't have any kids yet, but a good school district wouldn't hurt either. I don't mind commuting, but would really like to keep it under 35-45 minutes. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Many good suburbs south of Chicago
Yes..Flossmoor,Homewood,Oak Forest, Orland Park, and Orland Hills are all GREAT suburbs. Great shopping,great school districts, and awesome park districts. All of the cities I listed have a BUNCH of apartment complexes, some taking up a whole city block. Now what kind of commuting do you plan on doing? Driving? or public trans?
