Family and I have long wanted to live in Chicago, and I have a job opportunity in Merrillville IN. Are there any towns that permit easy access to both? I don't know much about IN, but I anticipate wanting to be in Chicago for most if not all of our leisure activities. Looking for top notch schools, good suburban community. $400K-ish budget for a 4BR house.

Flossmoor or Olympia Fields. They're 15 or 20 miles from Merrillville, and have Metra stations, so getting into the city will be easy. Dyer, Munster, etc., in Indiana, are nice towns, and closer to Merrillville, but getting to the city isn't as easy. So it's a trade-off. Either way, though, those are 4 nice towns.
