We have separate units for upstairs and down. The main part of our house is open, with two story windows facing south. This is nice for sunshine and warmth during the day in the winter, but it's chilly at night. In the summer it gets hot in that area. Anyway, during the day we keep the heat both upstairs and down on 66 or lower depending on the outside temp and amount of sunshine. In the evening when we are all home and hanging out, both get bumped up to 68. At night, the downstairs goes down to 63 and the upstairs back to 66.
Oh, and we run the ceiling fan backwards in the great room, otherwise the catwalk is like an oven. It helps tremendously!
