Uptown Apartments (Graham, Tryon: rentals, how much, houses)

Hi all,

I'm a single woman (early 20s) and looking for safe, affordable (<$1200) apts in uptown or nearby. I will be starting a new job in uptown. Thanks for all the suggestions in advance.

Yes, I have several friends who rent there. Also Post has a great property uptown. I have several B of A friends who are renting in Gateway (who can afford to buy a 380k one bedroom as a 26 year-old young professional?) and that is an awesome location as well.
Anyway, suggestions: Alpha Mill Apts are brand new (N Caldwell area), Fourth Ward Square, South End Square, The Arbors (8th St), First Ward Pl (8th St), Camden Cotton Mills (5th St), Post Gateway (Cedar st) and Post Uptown (Graham), 5th and Poplar. All in the middle of center city, on or near the Goldrush line, and easy access to all the uptown action.

I'm glad to see that Fourth Ward Square was recommended by someone.....my husband moves in there in 2 weeks for a 3 mo lease til the rest of us go.

The gentleman I spoke with on the phone was very nice and helpful. He said there is usually a waiting list of people looking to rent there, but there were 2 available apartments when I called a few weeks ago. Very reasonable cost, I think a 1 BR was 765/mo. Plus it's walking distance to B of A, and it looks like parking uptown can be difficult to find and costly. (bonus for us is that there's a pool, we're missing our pool in Connecticut house already)
As for how nice it is, I can only hope it's good.

If you can't find an apartment uptown, you might look in the areas just outside uptown for rental houses -- you'd be surprised how much is out there in some really good neighborhoods within 5-10 minutes of uptown.

I lived in the "Tryon apartments" and even though it's old and not alot of people's cup of tea it was not expensive. The mix of different people from diverse socio economic, and age made it a good interesting place to live.
