Asheville would be a better place to count on snow? I guess I would need to check the forecast daily then! Is Asheville in the mountains?
I would say no. The city of Asheville is in the mountains, but at around 2,200 feet above sea level. Asheville is the driest city in NC and averages only a total of 13.7" per season, but we haven't reached that figure since the 2003-2004 season. Your best bet for snow is in the Boone, Blowing Rock or Banner Elk area in the NW part of the state along the Tennessee border.

Boone/Linville/Sugar Mountain/Banner Elk would be better for snow - but it does not necessarily snow there on any given day . . . and snow doesn't necessarily "hang around" when it does snow. Today, my son called me and said it was snowing lightly but I don't think that lasted but a short while.
Come tonight - 2-4" in forecast for tomorrow morning!
Oh, by the way - Summer's here are VERY comparable to Orlando, may even get a bit hotter here...BUT it only really last for 6-8 weeks...

Minus the humidity! While the ambient temperature can certainly compete with Orlando, the feel of it pales in comparison (Charlotte being the better). Even when we had the heat wave in '07 where it hit 105-110 for a week or two straight, I felt better here than when I went back to Orlando that same year for Thanksgiving and Christmas and sweated my butt off just unloading the suitcase from the truck to the house (in November and December, mind you)!

+1
People tend to forget about the general lack of humidity. I'm not saying it's desert dry or anything, but compared to most areas in the east, Charlotte's air seems relatively dry. Even where I'm from (Cincy) the air seems much more humid. 100 here feels better than say 88 there due to the humidity. Sure we can have some extremely humid days, but when compared to other cities, they are far and few between - especially in the evenings.

Did you get any snow? I was unable to travel on short notice!

I had to LOL at this one! I can totally relate to that one! Although today, you would be freezing your butt off! It's only going to make it into the low 50's today, and it was 28 last night!

Looking at the thermometer on my desk right now...27 degrees (11:20am).
The snow fell generally to the southeast of Interstate 85. While Charlotte's center city and places like Gastonia and Lincolnton saw only light snow, about 2 to 3 inches coated the ground in southeast Mecklenburg County and in Union, Lancaster and York counties.
