Good Afternoon Everyone! I will be graduating from Nursing School (RN, BSN) in December and am looking to move to the Charlotte area. I have a question that some of you probably have the answer to...hopefully?
Are Presbyterian and Carolinas the only two healthcare systems in Charlotte? I will be a new grad.
Is there truly a nursing shortage in this area? I know there is a nationwide nursing shortage but some areas seem a little more affected than others.
If someone could list the hospitals on here that would be great. I browsed this site before I posted because I didn't want to sound too "stupid" but those were the only two that I seemed to hear about often. I am not interested in living/working at a place that is more than 25 minutes from downtown. I am a young, single, female and would not like to be in the middle of nowhere and have to drive a very long time to get to clubs, shopping, you know...things like that. Thank You in advance for all of your help. I am also familiar with allnurses.com.
If you want to work in the hospital, and you want within 25 minues of uptown, CHS and Presby are it. As for the shortage- no better and no worse here than anywhere else. Congrats!
from the wife,
I am a RN,BSN. Nurses are needed in Charlotte. Presbyterian and Carolinas are the popular hospitals. I will not be that much help b/c right now I'm a stay at home mom and we recently moved here but there is also Levine Childrens Hospital that I believe is in uptown. Carolinas Medical Center is all over. So if you want to work in uptown then make sure you stress that you want to be there. Good Luck in your search. Hopefully someone w/ more information can help you here.

Have a wonderful day!
Presbyterian and Carolinas Medical Center are the "big guns" with large main campuses and satellites all over the metro area. But there are other hospitals too, like Piedmont Medical Center just over the state line in SC and Lake Norman Regional Medical Center north of the city. Best of luck in your job search!
Thanks to all of you for your help! I CMC and Presby seem to be the way to go. I know in some cities certain hospitals are known for certain things...so please tell me this: Which hospital is known for delivering the most babies? I'm interested in Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum (Mother/Baby), or NICU. Anyone have any leads besides the nurse recruiter? Hey, it's worth a try! Thanks so much!

Levine Children's Hospital is the newest/biggest kids hospital between DC and Atlanta. It is CMC's hospital, and is attached directly to CMC-Main (CHS). Presby has Hemby Children's Hospital. If I were looking for NICU, I'd probably look first at Levine's.
Any one have an idea on salary for Per-Diem and or full or part time. I have been a nurse RN for 9 years and work mainly Nursery I also have worked NICU and miss it.
Had a friend that worked NICU at Levine. I believe she made in the $22-24 range full time. I'm sure they're PRN pool is substantially higher (as I am sure you know).
