I went with my neighbor today to Unleashed (by PetCo) because he feeds his cats Wellness also. I printed out 20 coupons for him to use, and the cashier and manager were both extremely unhappy about taking multiple coupons. The manager said that he would take them this one time only. I've been going there since last year, but I always get a different manager.
I told them that I was going send an email to both the Wellness Company and to PetCo HQ, and that if they refuse to take multiple coupons, I would go back to buying my cat food at PetsMart and PetPeople.
The coupons I receive and/or print from Wellness have always stated only one per customer. I never attempted to use more than one for that reason.
Just to give you a little "inside" info. It wouldn't be difficult for Wellness to find out that a company wasn't following the rules by allowing a customer to use more than one coupon when stated otherwise. Also, companies PAY the retailers several cents for each coupon redeemed.
Maybe the place that allowed you to do so got busted?
Many places only allow a max of 3 coupons for the same product... even when it isn't stated "only one per customer."

I never buy one can of cat food at a time. That would mean that I would have to shopping every three days, and I only do a big shopping once a month. It's easier me NOT to buy Wellness anymore, anyway. I had to make a special trip to buy it, and I don't normally go to Petco because they're too expensive. I prefer to go to PetsMart and PetPeople, for Blue Buffalo and Merrick, plus other brands of premium cat food. a 7lb bag of Blue Buffalo cat chow is $6.00 higher at Petco than at PetsMart.
You can find much better prices on pet food, in general, by shopping online and staying out of the Petsmart and Petco type stores. Yes, even with shipping, although you can often find free shipping coupons. I'm fortunate that there's a local company that does all their commerce online and then will deliver the food for free with orders over $25. I purchase for both my dog and cat and so my orders are always over that minimum since I purchase 1 or 2 cases of food for kitty and a big bag of food for the dog. And they carry all the premium brands, including food for raw food diets too.
I prefer to buy at Petsmart and PetPeople. That way I can buy different varieties and flavors or canned cat food. If I were to buy a case, it would all be the same flavor. I could order Merrick online straight from the company at $1.70 per can, and it's $1.27 per can at PetPeople. Plus, I don't spend $25 at one time.
The new Wellness coupons are out, and are good until March 16! The 3oz cans are on sale at Petsmart for $1.00. I went yesterday and bought 30 cans of Wellness, and paid $2.93. That was the tax. I'll be doing it again this week. All the kitties will be very well fed and happy! Petsmart has no objection about the amount of coupons that you can use. I may try Petco, since it's across the street from where I'm working right now, but Petsmart is a better deal.

WOW. I don't know how you get a cashier willing to allow the use of coupons that state, "Limit one coupon per purchase, per customer." PetsMart (or any company) can get into deep do-do.
